Dear Friends,
Sahayog has able to add few more steps towards her march
of sustainable development. Without crossing the edge of own value another year
add to the calendar of the Organization. Plans are executed some planning
changed with the demand of situation. Its’ our pleasure to bring out the
miniature of our journey with your kind and benign support as Annual Report
2013-14.

minded individuals, organizations and community we are here before you.
Operating Highlights
- Free health checkup camps along with medicine distribution to 2000 patients of three G.P of Ganjam Block in Ganjam District;
- For community participation and monitoring of flagship programs conduct Community Voice and Action (CV&A) in 4 ICDS Centers and 1 Community Health Center of Ganjam.
- Breastfeeding week observation in Bhuabneswar.
- Community based maternal death review in Ganjam

vulnerable groups and communities in particular, of Odisha and do everything in
their power to promote necessary changes in the behavior, practices and
policies; and the growth of a culture of solidarity, cooperation among peoples,
justice and peace.

A Society shall be prosperous if the people are healthy and content. Contentment shall be possible if there is participation and sharing are the way of life. So networking with like minded Organization and forums are the necessity of time in transforming life of most vulnerable & marginal people. Among the fore runner partner and networks are Child Health Now (CHN), Voice of Patients (VOP), 9 Is mine Campaign, Partnership for Maternal & New Born child Health (PMNCH), Common Health Coalition for Maternal and Neonatal Health and Safe Abortion (CMNHSA), Community Development Medicinal Unit (CDMU).
Activities
of the Year 2013-14:
If you haven’t
any support believe in your word and deeds that shall be the strength to move
forward. Passion for work and compassion for people of the Organization bring
genuine people to her fold with their physical, moral and financial support.
Their guidance beacon like a torch to move forward without fear of darkness.
Disability:
A dignified life only possible if equilibrium in Society prevailed.
Participatory mechanism and strong commitment shall be the founding stone for
the social symmetries. With a handful members, volunteers, Advisors Sahayog
started her journey. Looking at the distress of people with disability,
Bhinnakshyam Adhikar Mancha, Odisha come out of the mission to seek justice for
them and by them.
This year Bhinnakshyam
Adhikar Mancha, Odisha raised voice by blocking roads against callousness of
administration in investigating rape and murder of a blind minor girl on 8th
May 2013. The small unit’s brevity to fight for justice consummate with support
of commuters and immediately aired paving the way for consciousness among
people as well as eye opener of
administration.
Special
care taken during and after Phailin in get into the problem of disable people
and report shared in appropriate place for redress. World Disability Day in 3rd
December 2013 observed with condolence to the souls who lost their life in the
devastated Phailin in November by the sangathan leaders along
with President and joint convener of Bhinnakshyam Adhikar Mancha.
Health Initiatives:
For an
upcoming organization like Sahayog without external support the burdens are
persistent but that doesn’t pull-down from own dream. Each time Sahayog rejuvenate
own strength to fulfill her mission. This year individually and collectively with
network done some major activities.
Free Health camp & Medicine Distribution:
Natural
disaster Phailin followed by flood created mayhem in the life of people of
Odisha and especially Ganjam. Their health condition becoming worst with fever,
backache, common cold, joint pain, dysentery, gastritis, skin, ear and eye,
itching and various fungal problems. Huma Coastal Mega Food Park PVt. Ltd
(HCMFPPL), our members and public donation support the Organization to work for
the Phailin affected people. With 10 volunteers and support of Khandadeuli CHC
with doctor, LHV, ANM, ASHA and AWWs the Organization successfully arrange
health camps and distributed medicines to more than 2000 patients of Poirasi,
Umuri Dharmasaran Pur and Santoshpur Gram Panchayat of Ganjam Block. Community
Development Medicinal Unit Bhubaneswar exclusively supported calcium tablet for
the women in ante- natal care.
Community Voice & Action (CV&A):
Maternal and
child health is a grave concern for every Indian. Odisha lag behind other
states in reducing infant and maternal mortality ratio. Integrated child
development scheme (ICDS) has a major role to play in reducing IMR & MMR.
What are the services available for stakeholder and how could they monitor the
implementation of the scheme is depend upon the viability of information
community received. With the support of CHN project funded by World Vision
India the organization able to organized four CV&A program in 4 ICDS center
of Ganjam and Chhatrapur Blocks along with CV&A in Khandadeuli Community
Health Centre of Ganjam district in Sept 2013.
Breastfeeding Week:
Exclusive
breast feeding for first six month and start breast feeding within one hour of
delivery shall be initiated which can make the baby stay healthy and check
infant mortality. World Breast feeding Week-2013 observance closed with a state
level consultation at Red Cross Bhavan, Bhuabneswar on the banner of Child
Health Now, Odisha. Where 150 ASHA, AWW, PRI members, pregnant and lactating
mothers from Malkangiri, Kandhamal Ganjam, Khordha, Puri and Jagatsinghpur
districts were participated. Farida Sultana Nutrition consultant from Unicef
Odisha, Eminent Writer and social entrepreneur Sj. Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik,
Social worker Smt. Rupali Kar were grace the consultation with their valuable
tips to the participants.
Community Based Maternal Death Review:
Sahayog supported Oxfam India’s initiative of a
pilot study in Odisha during 2013-14 on Maternal Death Review in Ganjam
district which is one of the few high maternal death hazard district of Odisha.
The main objective was to highlight the social perspective of maternal deaths
which has been lost in searching only bio-medical causes of death in FBMDR and
to examine systemic problems in maternal health care service delivery system.
Adolescent Health & Life skill Education:
The period of adolescence is the most vulnerable and
critical stage of human life. In their growing period neither they have get
sufficient support from parents or school to know themselves and their
problems. Ultimate end is peers those are equally inexperience and biased each
other with little or no knowledge. Two training program organized in July 2013
and November 2013 for 100 adolescent girls. Role play, brain storming, Quiz and
Discussions make the girl much more aware about the sensitive matters. Personal
hygiene and reproductive role of women made them more matured and hopeful be
the change agents for other.
Advocacy for Tuberculosis Prevention & Care:
In order to eliminate the curable but deadly
disease Tuberculosis with a group like minded individuals, experts, physicians we
have been doing advocacy. The organization supported Voice of Patient a forum
for the victims of medical negligence, malpractice and corruption to publish
and distribute a Report card on World TB Day. TB related problems are
identified and helped counselling the loss to follow-up cases as well as TB
patients through public health experts and senior TB specialists to continue
their treatment. In slums and selected villages Sahayog also engaged in
spreading awareness on TB for early detection and continuum of care.
Initiatives on General Public Utility:
For general public utility Sahayog involved in
some process which core beneficiaries were children of Odisha. Engaged with
different forums and worked for the benefit of children as a whole. For
environment protection and awareness worked with school children. Initiated
process of observing and memorizing the people with huge contribution for
society.
Election Manifesto for Children:
On the eve of General Election 2014
CHN Odisha Core Group with the children initiate the process “Vote for
Child”. Since children are not a
vote-bank, generally their opinions and voices are seldom listened to. But it
is the children that form almost 40% of our population, will be the future
leaders, entrepreneurs, change makers and harbingers of prosperity for our
nation. 125 Children and NGOs working with them prepare a Children Manifesto
for the General Election- 2014 in State and Centre on 12th March 2014 at Red
cross Bhawan, Ground Floor, Bhubaneswar which was later on submitted by the
children to the manifesto committee member’s’ of leading political parties.
State Level Balsunwayi:
Representatives of Sahayog participated
in 5days National level workshop of 9 is Mine in Delhi to harness the
participation of children in demanding their rights in education and health in
the GDP of Country. A State level Children consultation Organized in Sahayog
where partners of CHN campaign in Odisha send their children representatives
from Malkangiri, Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar,
Puri and Khordha district to participated in the program held on 31st May 2013.
Its’ aim was to draw the attention of Policy makers and Political Party leaders
on the demands of children’s with the help of Media and other NGO partners.
Children invitees after consultation put their demands in chart paper and
confirmed which later send to campaign head office in Delhi. Out of 50 children
participants 2 were selected to represent Odisha in National Balsunwayi. Jasmin
Nishan from Bhubaneswar and Pratap Mallick from Gajapati. President of Sahayog
along with children participated in ‘National Bal Sunwayi’ (We want the
World to make real our rights) at Delhi.
Protection of Environment:
Our environment is our life. Imbalance of life style resulted in one side hunger, poverty and other side depletion of food. Think.Eat.Save with the theme of World Environment Day-2013 Sahayog organized an awareness drive for school children to sensitize on food loss and food waste.
Center for Environment Studies supported National
Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) 2013-14. On the theme of the year
Biodiversity Conservation a book in Odia (Jaiba Bibidhata Kahani Pedi)
published and distributed among students, teachers and social workers. Art
competition on Biodiversity Conservation organized and winners appreciated with
books, Posters on biodiversity, Certificates by the Guests. The awareness
program followed by plantation program in Kshetrabasi Academy Nirakarpur.
Students and volunteers planted Mango, Pomegranate,Jack fruit, Jamun in the
backyard of the school.
Workshop & Seminar:
Sahayog has the privilege to celebrate 6th Annual Day on
28th April 2013 along with members, advisers and well-wishers. The Organization took the responsibility to organize
the 1st Memorial Lecture of Dr. Syed Almas Ali at Red Cross Bhavan. Razia Ismail from Indian Alliance of
Child Rights has given the 1st Memorial Day lecture. More than 135 invitees
from different Organizations, government and private sector, friend, relatives
present and show their gratefulness to the great soul.
Relief to the poor:
Natural calamities always create havoc in the life
of Odia people in large. Make them poor and vulnerable each time. During
calamities instant support come as relief to the poor and vulnerable
communities.
Phailin Response:
This year the Phailin and flood
in November 2013 exploded life of many coastal district. Ganjam was one of the
worst affected district of the disaster. Immediately after the severe storm blow on 12th
November 2013 Bikram Swain
President of Sahayog along with Advisor Syed Maqsood Ali on 14th November2013 visited affected Ganjam Block. Meet the affected people and meet the Collector Ganjam in reference to immediate relief. Sahayog started its relief operation from 25th of November with 10 fire brand volunteer those who were engaged in preparedness programme and also rehabilitation works like cleaning uprooted trees, making roads for communication in the villages, and engaged in doing health camps, medicine distribution for the flood affected people of the area. Along with volunteers Sahayog started community meeting to assess whether all government support reach to affected people. Baby food Sattu and Biscuit distributed to 1000 household in Santoshpur Panchayat of Ganjam Block. Used cloths distributed to 100 adult and kids of Lauput and Satuli Harijan sahi.
