Annual Report: 2012-13



Vision: A Society where all her people are healthy, progressive and prosperous.
Mission: To improve health and education conditions among the populations, marginalized and vulnerable groups and communities in particular, of Odisha and do everything in their power to promote necessary changes in the behavior, practices and policies; and the growth of a culture of solidarity, cooperation among peoples, justice and peace.
Core Values: Efficacy with non-profit motif; and transparency and accountability in actions.
Objectives:
·         To facilitate, enable and make self-reliant all vulnerable and   marginalized groups, so they can access their right to health, education and survival;
·         To function as resource centre for people centered health practice and policy change initiatives: action, research, documentation and publication;
·         To create opportunities for rural and tribal peoples for promoting, preserving and advancing indigenous health and education knowledge and its transformation for improved peoples’ health system development and their replications; and
·         To help the society; finding an alternate education system through public debate, action and advocacy.   
PARTNER AND SUPPORTING AGENCIES:
SAHAYOG stands for equity and sustainable growth and in its mission build network with likeminded Organization and forums for transparent, accountable system governance affecting the mass, improving health, education in special and governance system in general. So worked as partner with RIST, Child Health Now (CHN), Odisha, and Partnership for Maternal & New born child health (PMNCH), Common Health Coalition for Maternal and Neonatal Health and Safe Abortion (CMNHSA), Community Development Medicinal Unit (CDMU), Bhubaneswar.
With all difficulties and odds SAHAYOG has been working towards materializing its cherished mission and vision involved with and among different groups in diversified activities.
From the day of origin the organization persistently trying to support the poor, disable, under privileged, marginalized people in getting their own right and entitlements. With the vision of community action SAHAYOG facilitate the Disable Peoples’ Association under the banner of Bhinnakshyam Adhikar Mancha, Odisha and to some extent successful in establishing synergy and make them informed about their rights and lead life with dignity.
 EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT: 
Education is the fundamental right of every child wherever he /she lives in. Nobody should have the right to deprive any child from his/her fundamental rights. The children living in urban slums have potentiality but unfortunately don’t get the scope to show their talents and they remain aloof from the rest of world. On the eve of Annual Day and Birth Anniversary of Utkal Gourav Madhudan Das SAHAYOG organized talents search programs in Tarini, Tuhikuti and Kalaraput Basti of Bhubaneswar. 21 students felicitated by Guests on SWABIMAN DIVAS.
School Management committee has a greater role to play in quality education to the students in school running by State Government. Although each school has own School Management Committee (SMC) but due to limited knowledge of members on their role in the committee make the SMC obsolete. This year Sahayog able to organize two training programs for 40 committee members of Santoshpur and Malad G.P of Ganjam Block in Ganjam District.

If a child cannot access education due to some form of disability then it’s a clear violation of his/her fundamental right. To make the system concerned for education of
children with disability a state level consultation was organize on the eve of world disability day on 2nd 2012 at own office premises in which humanitarian activist, parents of disabled children, activist for the right of persons with disabilities, teachers joined together and shared their concern over the issue. A post card campaign was conducted with demand for setting up ramps to all utility area in every school.  This campaign later on followed by PWDs associations of SAHAYOG in Erasama and Nimapada Blocks of Jagatsinghpur and Puri district respectively.

HEALTH INTERVENTIONS: Health is a major concerned for all especially the women and children. One individual or an organization can’t change single-handed, anything for better result, it required bigger strategy, bigger network and continuous movement. As a core member of Child Health Now-Odisha a Global network for MDG 4&5 the Organization involved in fact finding in Ranpur Block of Nayagarh district and Harichandanpur Block of Kendujhar district and catches glimpse people’s grief in getting health service which were their rights. CHN-Odisha organized a Jan Samabd in Idicol Auditorium on 24th August where the fact finding reports were shared. 

Two health checkup camps were organized by SAHAYOG and one camp in collaboration with Help Age India, Bhubaneswar. Medicines were supported by CDMU with minimum price. More than three hundred patients checked their health and got medicine in two camps.

A First Aid training program was organized by SAHAYOG on 6th August 2012 at Ganjam office 20 volunteers trained in the program by First Aid training expert of St. John Ambulance Division of Ganjam district.
Adolescence  is the most crucial  stage in a human life and especially for a girl. Girls' body prepared for future mother in this time. Their health, personal hygiene, nutrition are very important for a healthy mom and baby in future. Sahayog able to organize two adolescent awareness program on 13th August 2012 at Tamando G.P in Bhubaneswar Block and 27th January 2013 at Santoshpur G.P in Ganjam  block where 25 adolescent girls were participated in each program. 
DISABILITY

Working for the people with disability is the core program of the Organization. Since inception the leaders of PWDs Associations are always remain as the pillars of strength. All PWDs sangathans associated with Bhinnakshyam Adhikar Mancha, Odisha organize monthly meeting. With the active participation of Erasama sangathan 10 SHGs linked up with TRUPTI program and all the SHGs received revolving funds.

With the banner of SAHAYOG Balikuda Sangathan observed World Disability Day on 3rd December 2012 and Erasama Block Sangathan organized a rally followed by submission of memorandum to the Collector of Jagatinghpur.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT:
 United we stand  and divided we fall. The basic concept of self-help groups sometimes lost somewhere defeating the principle and losing the sanctity of SHGs. To synergize the true spirit of SHGs strong monitoring, time to time evaluation and capacity building of them is very crucial.  This year SAHAYOG organized a capacity building training program on conflict resolution and rift management in SHG federation of Tamando G.P. On the eve of International Women’s Day SAHAYOG observed with women of minority community of Palanka in Brahmagiri with oath taking “Say no to violence against women”. With rejoice and pleasure they observed the day followed by training on women and law.
LEGAL AID TO WOMEN: Legal Aid and moral support provided to victims of domestic violence and divorcee to get their rights by linking them to District Legal Service Authority, Cuttack. Adv. Rashmi Ranjan Jena filed case for some victim.  
VOCATIONAL TRAINING: Vocational training program for members of Mahavir SHG and Maa Jagulei SHG of Erasama organized in July 2012. 28 women SHGs members received the training on mushroom cultivation for seven days with the technical support of Sripati Mahapatra.
ENIVRONMENT PROTECTION: SAHAYOG never root out from causes to save the mother earth. The degrading environment poses serious threat to our survival. On 5th June on World Environment Day an awareness program on pollution free environment organized in Surya Nagar where 25 volunteers participated to create awareness among residents of locality. In the evening a meeting was organized in office premises noted environmentalist and plant lover Abhaya singh, Sripati Mohapata, Advisor of SAHAYOG Syed. Maqsood Ali graced the occasion. IEC materials distributed among the participants. The guest & resource persons reply the queries of participants how a woman can keep environment clean and green waste and work towards pollution free environment.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC SURVEY: Volunteers along with field supervisor conducted a baseline survey of Mallad and Santoshpur Panchayat. The data validated in each village. 
WORKSHOP & SEMINAR: On 28th April 2012 the 5th Birth Anniversary of the Organization a seminar was organized on Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das & Odisha. On
5th August 2012 at the Project office SAHAYOG organized a get together to share the prospective of Organizations as well as seeking support of community, line departments, administrative units, political parties etc. Honorable Ex. Member of Parliament Sj. Anadi Charan Sahoo and Honorable Member of State Legislative Assembly Sj Adikanda Sethy were eminent dignitaries were grace the occasion and Secretary of SAHAYOG coordinate the program and share the analysis of socio-economic survey of Santoshpur & Mallad Panchayat in Ganjam Block.
 ADVOCACY: For mass interest the Organization engaged in advocacy work.
This year President Mr. Bikram Swain actively involved in Civil Society protest and fact-finding work on the issue of ICDS Centre collapsed where 7 babies were died. The Organization also involved in Kandhamal fact-finding work on violence against child as well as adolescent girls.
IEC MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION:
SAHAYOG developed IEC materials on Panchayati Raj system, booklet on all social welfare schemes and booklet on women related issue and laws. 500 each copies distribute to women of different communities. Center for Rural Development support 700 valuable books on Panchayti Raj which SAHAYOG distributed among PRI members, activists, volunteers, educationist and social workers of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, and Khordha.
